Under the baton of Peter Britton the Orchestra of Britton’s Peers (leader Hazel Keelan) will be performing an intriguing programme of music with pianists Ivan Garford and Frances Wyatt, culminating in the exciting Concerto for Two Pianos by Poulenc.

The Eddie Seales Big Band

🎷 Tonights' performance will be a tribute, dedicated to Frank Wesson who played baritone saxophone with The Eddie Seales Big band for well over 25 years. He passed in August this year, just short of his 93rd birthday.

The Dave Newton Quintet

David Newton’s quintet brings together some of the finest musicians on the British jazz scene for an evening of superb mainstream jazz. Sixteen times winner of the British Jazz Awards’ Best Jazz Pianist title, Newton is renowned for his elegant touch, melodic invention and impeccable taste. Best known for his long-standing collaboration with vocalist Stacey Kent, he is equally at home as a soloist and accompanist, with a wealth of recording and performance experience behind him.

Joining Newton are trumpeter Gary Alesbrook, guitarist Matt Hopkins, double bassist Henrik Jensen and drummer Mark Whitlam, each bringing their own distinctive voice and considerable experience to the ensemble. Expect swinging, straight-ahead jazz, distinguished by first-class musicianship, inventive improvisation and strong melodic and harmonic interplay. As The Irish Times put it, “This is as good an example of straight-ahead, swinging mainstream jazz as you’ll find.”

The Blues and the Abstract Truth - Oliver Nelson's 1963 classic album where you'll find 'Stolen Moments' and other timeless tunes.

Mighty septet Rebop revisits saxophonist/composer Oliver Nelson’s 1961 classic album The Blues and the Abstract Truth, a moody, modal masterpiece which originally featured Bill Evans, Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard, Paul Chambers and Roy Haynes. Tonight it is played by Paul Higgs (trumpet), Harry Greene (tenor sax), Tom Smith (alto sax), Chris Ingham (piano), Malcolm Creese (bass) and George Double (drums), plus a mystery baritone saxophonist.

The Harry Allen & Fraser Smith Quintet

We are really pleased to welcome back to the Club after a gap of many years top USA tenor saxophonist Harry Allen, who has teamed up with British saxophone ace Fraser Smith for a short UK tour.

Harry Allen has released over 70 albums as a leader and many more as a sideman throughout his illustrious career and formed a regular part in groups with jazz masters such as Ray Brown, Harry Sweets Edison, Hank Jones, Flip Phillips, Kenny Burrell and Warren Vache, amongst many others. He has also recorded with Tony Bennett, Tommy Flanagan, Kenny Barron and James Taylor to mention a small few and has performed at jazz festivals and clubs worldwide, frequently touring the United States, Europe and Asia.
