The Clark Tracey Jazz Champions - Sunday 23rd November 2025

Art Themen and R J Gilbert - (Reeds), Dave Newton - (Piano), Andrew Cleyndert - (Bass), Clark Tracey - (Drums, Leader)

Led by the resourceful and multi award winning drummer, Clark Tracey, this band was formed in Spring 2024 to promote the UK's leading jazz musicians, all under one roof.

Clark has built a reputation over the past 45 years, not only as an outstanding 'straight ahead' jazz drummer, internationally respected, composer and arranger, but also as a talent spotter of young British jazz artists, worthy of a platform on which to propel their careers. For this reason he has earnt the title "The British Art Blakey". Such names have included Guy Barker, Zoe Rahman, Alex Ridout, Daniel Casimir and Gerard Presencer.

This year, however, Clark has chosen to focus on a group of his peers, finding a niche in the jazz market to show off the cream this country has to offer in one package. This band has received massive critical acclaim, following a 25 date tour in Spring 2024.

The line-up, ordered as pictured below, is: Andrew Cleyndert (double bass), Art Themen (reeds), Dave Newton (piano), Clark Tracey (drums), and R J Gilbert (reeds).
A stellar ensemble that would be right at home on the stage of Ronnie Scott's.

"Tracey is a world-class musician whose mature and distinctive artistry – his own “snap-crackle” – is right up there with the likes of Philly Joe Jones and Roy Haynes. Clark Tracey is also a great bandleader, able to engage both easily and warmly with audiences while offering them the most intelligently programmed music." Jazz Journal, 2024
